Natasha Severino is a force in international makeup having worked the shows of Milan, London, New York and Paris and illuminated famous faces such as Florence Welch, Rita Ora, Jennifer Hawkins, Isabel Lucas, Hugo Weaving and Teresa Palmer. Her métier spans a gamut of extremes: “I love the whole picture, the whole story, the reality of it and the fantasy. I love the way an image can make me feel when I look at it. Even if I don’t always like what I’m looking at, I like evoking that emotion.” The deft skill of her touch is implicit in the way she see’s the face. “Essentially I am sculpting with light, colour and textures, if the skin is the canvas then the rest is an experiment. It’s pure creative response in the moment and the end result is exquisite and original beauty.”
Apart from her obvious professionalism, there is a playful aspect to her aesthetic and Severino views humour as an important element to her work. Sometimes she describes her use of vivid colour as “almost child-like” but this is the work of a knowing and sophisticated child, steeped in a decade’s experience and mentored by the likes of Pat McGrath, Val Garland, Lucia Pieroni and Tom Pecheux . Describing her work as polished and high end, she views makeup as an extension of film and contemporary art, a continuum of creativity that just happens to pivot on human beauty. Establishing an imposing resume of international fashion magazines, and runway shows Severino has served as makeup director for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, national ambassador for YSL Beaute as well as being responsible for colour and product development for Sisheido.
